Ford Mustang Meets USAF Thunderbird

Flag resembles new Thunderbird MustangAn exclusive new 2013 Ford Mustang based on the Thunderbird planes used by the United States Air Force has been manufactured to benefit the Young Eagles program of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Ford has been the only automaker to sponsor World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration, the EEA AirVenture. The special edition Thunderbird-inspired Mustang is vehicle number six that Ford has built custom and offered as a donation to benefit the Young Eagles Program.

This Mustang will feature a bright white exterior paint job along with accents of red and blue, to bring out the patriotic spirit of both the Thunderbird and Mustang. Other logos and emblems will be added to the sports car’s exterior to further link the plane and car. In addition to wide body modifications, a customized “belly pan” has be added to increase the resemblance between the two. Differentiating the mustang even more are the custom 22-in wheels.

Embroidered Thuderbird features adorn the interior of the Mustang, along with new puddle lights, Recaro® seats, a modified navigation screen and more! With all of the other modifications and the fact that this Mustang is representing the USAF Thunderbird, it’s only logical that the car’s performance be altered too. Boosted by Ford Racing components, the Thunderbird Mustang is equipped with a suspension handling pack, Brembo® brakes and a Ford Racing supercharger.

Be Aware of Summer Dangers

Dogs in cars face summer dangers

Summertime is great, but when the temperature heats up, there are precautions that need to be taken to avoid summer dangers.

First things first – if you’re taking care of a child or pet, you must take full responsibility for keeping them safe. This means that if you’re driving around with a child or pet in the car, you must not leave them unattended in that car. Even if it’s for 5 minutes, and even if you’ve got the windows cracked.

Think of that hot air that rushes out of the car when you open the door after it’s been sitting in the sun. Now imagine having to sit in that heat as it builds up for twenty minutes. It’s probably worse than sitting in a sauna and both children and pets are not made to take that sort of heat. Always bring the child in with you on errands and if you cannot bring the pet into the store, leave them safe at home.

Many of us have heard this same warning and advice, but it really doesn’t hit home until you see the impact real-time. In a closed car on a typical, warm summer day, the temperature will raise exponentially in a matter of minutes. Watch the video below to see a veterinarian capture his experience in a closed car as the heat drastically rises.

Help Your Car Reach 200K+ Miles!

Service to keep your car driving for many milesWith the automotive industry growing and the technology and materials advancing, it’s no wonder that cars are lasting longer than ever before. Did you know that the average age of the cars driving around on the road today is close to 11 years old? Some may attribute this to the slow economy, which is a partial factor, but it’s undeniable that cars these days are just more durable and reliable.

There’s also that statistic that the average car will add over 10,000 miles each year. With this additional driving though, it’s obvious that cars will need to be serviced to be able to continue driving smoothly. Here’s where your owner’s manual comes in. I would take a little time getting familiar with it, or skim through at the very least. Being aware of the suggested service time frames will help save time and money by getting you to the service shop when necessary. Also, if you recognize a strange new sound/smell/movement on your car, don’t wait to have it checked.

Other great tips for helping your car reach over 200,000 miles are below:

  • Try to reduce the number of short trips you take. AAA does not recommend trips if they last “less than five miles in normal temperatures, or less than ten miles in freezing temperatures,” because they are not long enough to get the engine up to operating temperature.
  • Synthetic oil, although more expensive, is better for your car than petroleum-based oil for lubrication and protection of the engine.
  • When it comes to transmission fluid, the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association declares that you should always replace the filter before flushing.

EcoBoost Technology is Creating Quite the Buzz

Ford’s EcoBoost technology has been in the works and available for about four years, but it’s just now really starting to make headlines. This is in part to Ford’s latest campaign ‘And Not Or,’ which highlights that no one should have to compromise of sacrifice one feature for another – particularly power for fuel economy or vice versa.

Ford EcoBoost Technology

Ford’s EcoBoost technology helped create a smart performance engine that has the power of a V8 engine, but the fuel economy of a V6 engine. This is obtained through a process of turbocharging and direct injection that delivers great low-end torque responsiveness and therefore provides great fuel economy plus power.

If you want it all and are not willing to give up any power or efficiency, then you need to stop by Ron Bortnick Ford to check out our wide selection of new Fords that offer the EcoBoost technology option. Those cars include the Focus ST, Fusion, Taurus, Escape, Edge, Flex, Explorer and even the Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Ford Takes on a Need For Speed

Well-known video game series, Need For Speed is making its way to the big screen and who should star in this great action, racing film but the greatest auto brand there is – Ford! The American-made brand is creating a custom 2014 Ford Mustang and Ford F-450 for the movie as a promotional tie-in.

The custom Mustang Shelby GT500 will be the hero ride for the star of the film, making the Mustang the starring car! To create an exterior appearance with exaggerated arcade style, it will be built with a one-off widebody kit and supported by 22-inch wheels.

Ford and Need For Speed

The Ford F-450 Super Duty pickup truck featured in the upcoming Need For Speed film is equally, if not more impressive. The Beast, the truck’s on-screen name, will be equipped with a set of smokestack pipes for the exhaust from the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine. Further customizing the massive truck is a 7-inch lift kit, set of First Attack wheels and a 9,000 lb. winch. The exterior is also complimented with a bull bar integrated into the front bumper and a custom cargo box.

With the Mustang’s 50th birthday coming up next year, that’s another great way to celebrate the sports car’s milestone. You can see for yourself at the Need For Speed Movie premiere on March 14, 2014.

“Built Ford Tough” Tagline is here to Stay

It has been 35 years since the tagline “Built Ford Tough” came about. It is a rare and high honor for an advertising tagline to last over 3 decades, but Ford has done it. There are no plans of stopping it either.

Doug Scott, Ford’s Truck Group Marketing Manager said, “I’m pretty confident that it’s the longest running truck tagline out there. ‘Built Ford Tough’ is the essence of what we’re all about. It’s much more than a tagline. It’s the brand promise”

In fact, Ford trucks have been the best-selling trucks in America for the last 36 years. R. L. Polk data shows there are more Ford trucks on the road with more than 250,000 miles than any other brand. It is cited that more than 8 million people own Ford trucks.

The Ford truck legacy will continue on with the phrase that rings in the ears of pickup truck fans.  “Built Ford Tough.”

Ford wins Engine of the Year Second Time in a Row

Ford has taken top honors for the second consecutive year in the International Engine of the Year voting. The winning Ford engine is the 1.0-liter EcoBoost that will be present on the new Ford Fiesta coming in the fall. Currently the engine is offered in several Ford vehicles in the European market.

A board of 87 automotive journalists from 35 different countries determined the winner. The Ford EcoBoost engine achieved the highest-ever accumulated score in the 15 years the award has existed. It is also only the third time an engine has won the award back-to-back.

The voters were impressed by the engine’s powerful output coming from such a compact size. Ford has demonstrated that the engine is small enough to fit in the overhead bin of a passenger airplane. The size does not take away from its power. The 1.0-liter EcoBoost produces 123 horsepower, 1,400 to 4,500 rpm, and 148 lbs-ft of torque.

Visit your local Ford dealership this fall to test the International Engine of the Year in the all-new Ford Fiesta.

2013 Ford Fusion Earns Top Safety Ratings

Since its debut, the 2013 Ford Fusion has received awards for just about every aspect of the redesigned sedan.  From the design to performance and efficiency, recognition for the Fusion covers everything.  Now, the 2013 Ford Fusion is celebrating top marks in safety for its hybrid plug-in variant.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is regulated by the U.S. Government and is widely regarded as the most rigorous testing a vehicle goes through.  The 2013 Fusion Energi earned the highest possible Overall Vehicle Score of five stars from the NCAP.

“The Fusion Energi combines the highest possible safety ratings from NHTSA and great fuel economy, two things we know customers are looking for in their vehicles,” said Steve Kenner, Global Director of the Ford Automotive Safety Office, in a press release. “Our strategy is to provide our customers with a range of powertrain options in our vehicles, while still leading in fuel economy in every segment that we compete.”

The NHTSA is not the only organization to recognize the 2013 Fusion with high safety scores.  The IIHS recently named the 2013 Fusion a Top Safety Pick+.  The “+” is a new distinction for elite safety vehicles, and is the highest rating the IIHS awards.
